Well coming to the types of Jailbreak, we have currently 3 types of jailbreak -
2) SEMI UNTETHERED JAILBREAK-Coming to the semi untethered jailbreak, the device will turn on when turned off but no app works or opens,to fix it we need to turn it on by using a computer by patching kernals, by using third party softwares like RED SN0W. In a semi untethered Jailbreak the device starts up on its own, it will no longer have a patched kernel , but it will still be usable for normal functions and we cannot work on it or use it, we can just receive calls.
3) TETHERED JAILBREAK -coming to the Tethered jailbreak, the device will not turn on when it is turned off, when a user tries to turn on a device with tethered jailbreak the device stucks on showing apple logo, and it doesn't turn on even it is kept for Days.To make it turn on we need the third party software like RED SN0W to make it turn on by patching kernels. With a tethered jailbreak, if the device starts back up on its own, it will no longer have a patched kernel, and it may get stuck in a partially started state; in order for it to start completely and with a patched kernel, it essentially must be "re-jailbroken" with a computer (using the "boot tethered" feature of a jailbreaking tool) each time it is turned on.
Tethered vs Untethered Jailbreaks
Due to the hassle of tethering (connecting) your iOS hardware to a computer on each boot, an untethered jailbreak is obviously preferential.
If you are patient, I would always recommend waiting for an untethered jailbreak to become available for your hardware. If you are determined to proceed on the cutting edge of jailbreaking, learn how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 with redsn0w, which is now untethered but took a while to be released. For future reference, most people are better served by waiting for an untethered jailbreak to be released.
